New super specialty cancer hospital for Gujarat sanctioned by central government

Ghulam Nabi Azad ,Union minister for health and family welfare declared that the central government has sanctioned new super specialty cancer hospital for Gujarat during his one-day visit to the state. Azad said that in the past nine years of UPA government, Gujarat got Rs 4,164 crore grant from Health and Family Welfare Ministry. The current financial year alone the state has been given Rs 608 crore. 
We have sanctioned a super specialty cancer hospital for Gujarat along with 20 other states. He said that total of 951 works were sanctioned under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) which include 404 new construction works including 323 sub centers. Total of 136 primary health centres, 18 community health centres, 27 sub-district/divisional hospitals have been developed under the NRHM. Azad claimed that a total of 547 renovation and up-gradation works were also completed. 

The minister said that under NRHM, number of medical and para-medical and nursing staff has also increased considerably in Gujarat. A total of 3,749 human resources comprising 73 specialists, 735 AYUSH doctors, 529 staff nurses, 1,184 paramedics, 764 ANMs, 23 district proggramme managers, 26 district account managers, 19 district MIS managers, 172 block managers and 224 block accounts have been added under NRHM. He said that as on date, a total of 506 ambulances (108) are operational in the state. The minister said that all the districts of Gujarat are reporting under Maternal and Child Health Tracking System (MCTS).
A total of 42,17,965 pregnant women and 3,073,095 children have been registered in MCTS since its inception. Under the Centre's Janani Suraksha Yojna (JSY) under which cash assistance is given to pregnant women for institutional delivery has observed a phenomenal increase. A number of beneficiaries has gone up from 1.21 lakh in 2006-07 to 3 lakh in 2012-13, the minister informed. The minister also informed about the UPA government's achievements in the health sector and success of various health related schemes in the last decade.
